About Environment Service

Operation Equip India (OEI) collaborates with local village councils, schools, and families affected by disabilities to enhance the accessibility of community environments for people with disabilities. They address the significant challenge of inaccessible homes, schools, toilets, and public buildings, which hinder individuals with disabilities in their daily activities. OEI works towards ensuring easy accessibility to these places and promotes awareness about environmental consciousness.
Their environment programs include:
  • Installing accessibility ramps and railings in homes and schools for people with disabilities.
  • Conducting plantation drives in the neighborhood and public spaces.
  • Organizing Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (Cleanliness drives) in schools and villages.
  • Facilitating sports and cultural events for people with disabilities and their families.
Through these initiatives, OEI aims to create inclusive environments, improve accessibility, promote environmental sustainability, and foster social integration for individuals with disabilities.

Success Stories

Basavangowda, an 18-year-old who suffers from Spina Bifida resulting in weakened legs and immobility, also faces challenges related to bowel and bladder incontinence, making him susceptible to infections. After the loss of his father two years ago, he resides with his hardworking mother and older sister. His mother, who works as a daily wage laborer, diligently tends to Basavangowda’s special needs, while his sister had to discontinue her education after completing the 12th grade to assist with household chores and work.
Due to his disability and impoverished circumstances, Basavangowda had to discontinue his education after the 8th grade. However, Equip Asia’s intervention in his village fostered a strong bond of friendship with his family. Through regular visits, counseling, and companionship, the team has been able to bring Christ’s hope and healing to Basavangowda and his family.
Additionally, Equip Asia collaborated with the family to construct an accessible toilet and pathway, enabling Basavangowda to conveniently access the restroom using his wheelchair. This newfound accessibility has not only improved his independence but has also allowed him to venture outside and socialize with his friends. Overwhelmed with gratitude, his mother tearfully expressed, “We are very happy to see him move around. You have reduced my burden. Now I can go to work without worrying about him.”
